Retail Exchange – Revolutionizing the Boutique Shopping Experience

Two Boston Business Women Develop Innovative Platform to Improve Boutique Shopping

Boston, MA – Feb 12, 2015 – Retail Exchange is revolutionizing boutique shopping with an engaging software platform that allows customers to pick styles that fit their fashion needs  and communicate these preferences to their local boutique for a greatly improved shopping experience.   Having recently launched a Kickstarter campaign, Retail Exchange has already raised more than a third of the campaign’s funding which will  help produce the prototype.   

With only 34 percent of 50 year old woman and older purchasing clothing on-line and the majority preferring more personal in-store boutique experiences  many customers have a hard time finding a store that  satisfies their   fashion needs.  This  prompted retail and whole business owner, Deb Fanton, and former high-tech marketing executive Lauren Richman, to team up and create Retail Exchange. This innovative solution will help drive customers to boutiques, make it simpler to close in-store sales, and create sustainable customer relationships.

“Whether I was listening to customers in my own store or working with any one of my 200 boutique clients, I kept hearing the same thing,” explained Fanton, who also owns a store, Lola Tortola in Needham Mass. “Customers complain there is not enough merchandise in boutiques.  Boutiques complain they cannot buy as much, and designers are frustrated that Customers only see a fraction of what they produce.  We knew there had to be a solution to this problem.”

Retail Exchange helps match customers to their local boutiques and gives them more choices than what a boutique may offer.  Customers can cut and paste into a bulletin board anything of interest to build a social fashion scrapbook online to store ideas and define their needs. Based on the choices they make, customers  select   local boutiques to follow. When they visit, customers get in-store access to additional styles from designers, while boutiques are prepared for the customer’s visit, having received detailed customer preferences  Users also receive rewards for in-store visits, purchases, and referrals.

Retail Exchange also has the option to directly connect with designers, stylists, and boutiques to get answers to fashion questions. Customers will also have access to a variety of lookbooks that they can view at any time for fashion advice and tips. The software makes it convenient and brings a new dimension to shopping to increase engagement in customers, while assisting boutique owners in buying choices for the store so they effectively reach target customers. 

Funds from the campaign will go towards developing the prototype, which will be tested in boutiques throughout Metrowest Boston by fall 2015. Once the prototype has been successfully tested, the founders will reach out to angel investors to bring this unique product to the market by early 2016.
