The soft drink giant was the second best gainer in the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index in pre-market trading, trailing only Starwood Hotels & Resorts (HOT) , which was up 5%, on an earnings beat, according to FactSet. Coke topped earnings-per-share expectations  by 2 cents on better-than-expected revenue of $10.87 billion.

The earnings beat from the iconic blue-chip stock gave the Dow a caffeine-like jolt. In pre-market trading the Dow was up 100 points, after suffering its second straight losing session Monday, after ripping off a more than 700-point gain in the first four days of last week.
