Technology Champion Nathalie Gosset Inspires Women with her Gritty Tale in ‘The Journey of a 21st Century Female Engineer’

The gender and pay gap is only one of the many issues that plague STEM related jobs today. One voice, emerging from the very heart of the technical industry, has now struck an inspirational but cautionary chord in the form of a candid memoir, ‘The Journey of a 21st Century Female Engineer’.

The memoir is the latest edition of the award winning e-book series from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), ‘Women in Engineering–Book 16: Vignettes of Discovery and Growth’. The account traces the journey of Nathalie Gosset’s 30-year career as an engineer and what it means to be a female working in this field.

For women, engineering is still considered a not so glamorous career. The 31-pager account of Nathalie takes the reader through her struggles, challenges and her achievements as a highly respected technology champion and speaker on future technologies. It also furnishes a first-hand account of her experiences with and fight against sexual harassment.

“For more than a decade, I have known that my professional journey is not just my story. I have stood before audiences both large and small to ask more girls and women to join me in one of the STEM professions,” writes Nathalie.

The e-book series by the IEEE-USA Women in Engineering Society (WIE) is about women engineers and aims to help narrow the gender gap between the numbers of men and women in engineering, by providing the stories of female role models at various phases of their careers. Each book is a first-hand account of how a notable contemporary woman engineer built her career.

“This is more than just a book. It’s a positive mind builder! It’s the greatest, most beautiful book I have read so far,” said one recent reviewer.

Nathalie Gosset, 2009 IEEE Engineer of the Year and recipient of the global 2007 Career Service Award from the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, was Senior Director of Marketing and Technology Innovation at the Alfred E. Mann Institute for Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California, for the past 12 years. She has also won several IEEE and IEEE-USA Awards for her volunteer efforts with the organization.
